Is Crack the Code free to play?

Crack the Code is free to play — a new puzzle goes live every day, it costs nothing, and no account is required. Puzzle Run Plus is an optional paid upgrade that adds extras on top; the daily puzzle itself is always free.

Do I need an account?

No account is needed to play Crack the Code — guests can open the site and solve today's puzzle straight away. Signing in with Google saves your results across devices and is required for streaks and the past-challenge archive. As a guest, only today's result is kept, in this browser's local storage.

Is it the same puzzle for everyone?

Every Crack the Code player gets the same puzzle on the same day. The daily challenge is numbered, and that same numbered challenge is served to everyone, so a solve time is comparable across players.

When does the puzzle reset?

The Crack the Code daily puzzle resets at midnight in your own local time zone. Each new day serves the next challenge number in order.

How many guesses do I get?

Crack the Code gives you unlimited guesses — there is no attempt limit and no way to lose. A wrong code just shakes the board and hands it straight back to you. Your solve time is timed and saved, so speed is the only thing at stake.

How many digits is the code?

The hidden Crack the Code code is four digits long, and those four digits are always different — no digit ever repeats. Every puzzle hands you exactly four clues and has exactly one solution.

What do the clues mean?

Crack the Code clues are exact counts printed in five forms: Nothing is correct, 1 correct and well placed, 2 correct and well placed, 1 correct but misplaced and 2 correct but misplaced. Each label counts every match in that guess exactly, so a clue rules digits out as firmly as it rules them in. The how to play page walks through a fully worked example.

What is a streak?

A streak is the number of consecutive days you have solved the Crack the Code daily puzzle. Streaks require being signed in — guests play the daily but do not have a streak.

What happens if I miss a day?

Missing a day resets your Crack the Code streak to zero. Puzzle Run Plus members get a streak freeze, which bridges exactly one missed day and keeps the tally running.

What does Puzzle Run Plus cost?

Puzzle Run Plus costs $2 per month or $20 per year — the yearly plan works out to two months free. Billing is handled by Lemon Squeezy and you can cancel at any time; the billing and refunds page has the details.

What do I get with Plus?

Puzzle Run Plus includes the full past-challenge archive, unlimited practice puzzles, a streak freeze, and first access to new games as they launch. The daily puzzle stays free for everyone, with or without Plus.

Can I play past puzzles?

Past Crack the Code puzzles can be replayed from the Level Hub. Signed-in players can replay the last 7 days for free, and anything older needs Puzzle Run Plus. Guests need to sign in first.

What is practice mode?

Practice mode is a Puzzle Run Plus feature that generates unlimited fresh Crack the Code puzzles at the difficulty you pick — easy, medium or hard. Practice puzzles never affect your saved results or your streak.

Is there an app?

There is no native Crack the Code app. The game plays in any mobile or desktop browser at puzzle-run.com — open the site and today's puzzle is ready to go.

How is it different from Wordle or Mastermind?

Crack the Code differs from Wordle and Mastermind in where the information comes from: in those games you learn from your own guesses, while Crack the Code prints all four clues up front. That makes it a pure deduction puzzle with one guaranteed solution, no guess limit and nothing to lose by trying.
